ABOUT ANIME & MANGA
  • I want to find out more about anime. Where should I start?

Gilles Poitras, author of The Anime Companion and Anime Essentials, recommends a selection of anime at his homepage here, in which he hits the highlights of what you should watch. You can also check out the rec.arts.anime.misc FAQ here. Also of interest is Anime University at AnimeInfo.org.

I would suggest just going to your local video store (preferably something independently owned and operated) and checking out what they have for rent. See what strikes your fancy. Expose yourself to a lot of different kinds of anime. Start perusing the rec.arts.anime.misc newsgroup. Have fun.

  • I want to find out more about manga. Where should I start?

There is a whole lot more manga commercially available now than there was even a couple of years ago. If you have a decent comic book store, they probably have a pretty good selection. You can also check out the rec.arts.manga FAQ here.

Again, just look around and find what you like.
