WRITING PAPERS
These questions should help to get you started if you're interested in writing a school paper about anime.
  • I want to write a paper about anime. Where should I start?

Start with what you know. If you're interested in writing about anime, you've certainly seen some anime, so begin with that. There is anime out there that will appeal to every taste.

  • What books should I begin with?

It depends on how deep you're looking to go. As a good introduction to anime analysis, I'd recommend Antonia Levi's Samurai From Outer Space. For a more sophisticated read, try Susan J. Napier's Anime: From Akira to Princess Mononoke. Gilles Poitras' Anime Essentials is a pretty good primer as well. More information on these books can be found of the Books page of this website.
