AnimeResearch.com is your starting point for academic research about anime, manga and other aspects of Japanese popular culture. In addition to original content, you will find links to articles and news reports that can be found on the web, as well as an extensive bibliography of books, journals and articles that are potential sources for academic or journalistic writing.

SITE NEWS
1/5/06
- I have added the most recent article I have written ("Creating 'Amateur' Manga in the US: Pedagogy, Professionalism, and Authenticity") to the website. You can read it in HTML or PDF format.

11/21/05 - Well, what do you know, the site isn't dead after all. You probably don't want to hear my excuses about all the other work I'm dealing with in grad school, my laptop problems, or the beautiful baby daughter my wife and I had in January. (Then again, perhaps you do want to know about her.) Needless to say, some of the AnimeResearch maintenance has been neglected in recent months. I still have grand plans for a database and site redesign. But for the time being you all will have to settle for a massive content update.

Also, be sure to check out the website of Mechademia: An Academic Journal for Anime, Manga and the Fan Arts (I'm on the editorial board). The first issue will be coming out in Fall 2006, but there is already a CFP posted for issues 2 and 3.

NEW RESEARCH SOURCES
11/21/05
- Under "Print Materials" I added 7 new books, 12 new book chapters, and 24 new journal articles.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Check out my book, Stray Dog of Anime: The Films of Mamoru Oshii, on Palgrave's web site and on Amazon.com.

If you are interested in joining an in-depth discussion on anime and manga, you can join the Anime and Manga Research Circle group. You can see more about the group and how to join here
